Worlds collided the other day when Great American Family star and Hallmark alum Cameron Mathison scored an invite to a fan event. It wasn’t an event for either network, though. Instead, he had a blast with two former soap stars, one of whom is an iconic ‘80s rock star.
Cameron Mathhison Scores Major Invite From Rick Springfield
Taking to Instagram, Mathison revealed that he got to spend his weekend with former “General Hospital” star and beloved musician Rick Springfield. Mathison shared a video from the event where the soap star was having the time of his life.
“Not sure how I landed an invite to Rick Springfield fan weekend alongside Rick, Doug Davidson, and Mark Goodman… but I wasn’t about to ask questions. What an absolute blast. 🎸,” read the caption on his social media share.
Set to Springfield’s iconic ‘80s song “Jessie’s Girl,” Mathison was in his element interacting with fans. The crowd was hyped to see Mathison in the mix. There was also footage of Springfield performing “Jessie’s Girl,” which drove the fans wild.
Mathison didn’t reveal how he scored the invite to hang with Springfield at a fan event. It was clear, though he was having the best time, and that didn’t go unnoticed by fans or one of his co-stars.
Candace Cameron Bure chimed in the comments to write, “So fun!” “How extremely awesome !! Love Rick Springfield too ❤️ your versatility always wows me Cameron ❤️,” insisted a fan.
Another fan added, “Wow!!! Looks like sooo much fun!” One fan shared, “Totally jelly 😉….I had a childhood crush on Rick and to this day Jessie’s Girl is still a favourite song of mine.”
“Wow! That’s incredibly, so cool and extraordinary fun 💥✨️,” declared a fan. One fan expressed, “You, @rickspringfield and @dougdavidsonyr — what a great trio! Looks like a fun time!”
Doug Davidson is no stranger to the soap world. Fans will recall he spent decades playing Paul Williams on “The Young and the Restless“. What fans may not know is that Davidson and Springfield are very close in real life and often spend time together with their wives.
‘General Hospital’ Star Gives Cameron Mathison Mad Props
There’s no question that Mathison has been one busy man filming Christmas movies and experiencing a career first. Mathison, though, loves his day job on “General Hospital” even if fans aren’t fond of Drew. The character is despicable and has even caused Mathison to have things thrown at him because fans confuse him with Drew.
Drew may be a horrible person, but Mathison’s co-stars have nothing but love for him. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Cynthia Watros (Nina) praised Mathison and his portrayal of Drew while the character has been incapacitated.
“Cameron has been doing an amazing job. It is not easy, what he’s doing and all the emotion that he is able to show. It’s written in the script, like, ‘Drew is afraid with his eyeballs.’ I mean, how do you do that? But he does it!” she gushed about him.
