The wait is over for Hallmark fan favorite Jonathan Bennett to make his “General Hospital” debut. News broke last month that Bennett was returning to his daytime roots on the ABC soap. Ahead of his highly anticipated premiere, “General Hospital” has given fans a first look at Bennett as Detective Joe Fitzpatrick.
First Look Video at Jonathan Bennett on ‘General Hospital’
In the first-look video shared by the ABC soap and People magazine, it quickly becomes clear that Joe has been forced to arrest one of Port Charles’ residents. The scene takes place at the Port Charles Police Department, and Joe appears deep in thought before Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) arrives, wanting to know about the arrest.
“A call came in from the maître d at the Metro Court. He said there was some sort of argument, scuffle happening in the gardens, and he was concerned things were going to escalate and patrons would get injured. When we got there, it was obvious things had escalated,” Joe declares.
The video ended there, but it was enough for fans to know two things. One Bennett is going to kill it in this role. Two Joe has to be talking about the fight between Curtis (Donnell Turner) and Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson), which fans saw play out on the most recent episode and ended with Isaiah going through a table.
“General Hospital” legend Finola Hughes (Anna) hopped into the comments of the Instagram post to welcome Bennett to the show. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” star Jackie Cox chimed in to say, “more JB please!”
Fans also took time to gush over seeing a glimpse of what is to come of Bennett on the ABC soap. “Cannot wait to see Jonathan bring the heat to the show! Monday can’t come soon enough!!! 🔥🙌🏻👑” insisted a fan.
Another fan added, “Perfection as a Detective too. Good job Jonathan 😍.” Other fans made it clear they simply can’t wait to see Bennett in the Port Charles mix, especially as part of the PCPD.
Jonathan Bennett Reveals Advice Cameron Mathison Gave Him
Speaking with TV Insider, Bennett admitted that when he read the role of Joe, he knew he had to take it. However, going back to daytime after 25 years wasn’t easy, given the fast pace and the massive amount of dialogue.
Lucky for Bennett, he had his friend, Cameron Mathison, around to give him some much-needed advice. The two men met over two decades ago on “All My Children” and have both since appeared in several Hallmark movies.
Bennett referred to Mathison as his “favorite in the whole world” before sharing that the soap star was his first call when Bennett learned about the “General Hospital” role.
“So, Cameron was actually the first call I made when this opportunity came up. I was like, ‘Cameron, should I do this? I really want to do this.’ He said, ‘You should do this. It’s going to be very fun for you, and you’re going to enjoy it,” the “Mean Girls” star expressed.
Mathison isn’t the only “All My Children” alum Bennett will have on set. Michael E. Knight (Martin) is on the show, and Bennett can’t wait to work with him, but admits he wasn’t sure Knight would remember him.
