Since Edie Martell’s introduction in Season 12 of Hallmark‘s “When Calls the Heart,” the character has been reticent and steadfast. There have been moments in which she’s allowed Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) to see glimpses of her with her guard down. Unfortunately, they’ve been infrequent.
However, as Edie gets more entrenched in Hope Valley, many of those walls will likely begin to crumble, revealing more of Edie’s personality. Actress Miranda MacDougall, who plays her, revealed that a few of those revelations are right around the corner.
MacDougall Says Edie’s Mysterious Past Will Be Revealed ‘In the Next Few Episodes’
“There’s a couple moments that rock her a little bit and test her balance,” she told the “Hallmarkies Podcast” during a Podcaster Junket interview. “I think there’s something that happens later in the season that tests her resolve a little bit, and she has to make a big decision, and she does make a big decision.”
“And I think that the pride and the ego and the fear and everything that’s wrapped up in that is what she’s fighting on her own,” she continued, careful not to give too much away. “And ultimately will lead to whatever she ends up doing.”
While Hearties love seeing the connection between Edie and Lucas, they also want to know who she was before. According to MacDougall, fans will get some juicy details about Edie’s previous life soon.
“There’s a couple of chunks,” she teased.”A couple of episodes that shed a light on maybe Edie’s past few years. Which was really fun to play.”
“We will get to know in the next few episodes, I think,” she revealed. “A little bit more about what was happening with Miss Edie before she walked into that office with her rolled-up piece of paper many days ago.”
MacDougall Explains Edie’s Hesitation: The Scary Truth About Love
MacDougall admitted there would be upcoming scenes that explain why Edie doesn’t just tell Lucas she likes him. She also believes the reason is fairly obvious and something we can all relate to: fear.
“We all want love, we all want to be loved,” she explained. “We want to be told that we’re enough, we want to be doing enough by our own standards. And I think that the fear of rejection or the fear of committing to something that feels bigger than yourself is scary, and is not something that Edie especially is going to jump into so easily.”
“I think it’s just that repetition of seeing an example of a person that she respects and admires, and ultimately wants to spend time with,” MacDougall added. “And admitting to herself that she doesn’t have to go at this alone. She can lean into something that feels right, and a person that feels like they could be a really special person in her life.”
I saw on Instagram a clip of Lucas Bouchard introducing Edie to his new friend who looks just like Lucas !!! They could be brothers!!!!
Edie has a true Freudian slip and said my fiance the man corrects Edie by saying ex-fiance!!!!
I have a sad feeling this is the beginning of the end for Edie and Lucas? Which is a real shame I was just beginning to like the character of Edie Martell especially for Lucas.
I think Edie needs to ask herself why did she choose Lucas? Is it because he looks like her ex-fiance?
