After a brave fight against ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Eric Dane sadly died on Thursday, February 19. He was just 53 years old.
As the his fans reckon with the news worldwide, stars from all over Hollywood are pouring in their love. Among them is Hallmark star Sarah Drew, who co-starred alongside Dane on “Grey’s Anatomy.” While Drew was April Kepner on the show, Dane won over fans as Mark Sloan, aka “McSteamy.”
Sarah Drew Mourns Eric Dane’s Passing
GettyDrew, who in the midst of promo for her new movie “The Stars Between Us,” took to her Instagram Stories to mourn Dane’s passing. “Heartbroken for this tremendous loss,” she wrote.
“Eric was an incredible presence as an actor and as a human and he will be profoundly missed,” she continued. “Sending so much love to his family.”
As a reminder, Dane is survived by his daughters, Billie and Georgia, who are only 14 and 15 years old.
The news of his passing was confirmed by his family in a statement to People. “With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS,” the statement reads. “He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.”
“Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight. He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always. Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.”
Sarah Drew Shared Eric Dane’s ‘Last Words’
GettyFollowing the sweet message about Dane and her support to his family, Drew shared quotes from Dane’s conversation for Netflix’s series “Famous Last Words.”
“Billie and Georgia, these words are for you,” the star said in the interview. “I tried. I stumbled sometimes, but I tried. Overall, we had a blast, didn’t we?”
“This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit,” he continued. “The two of you are different people, but you’re both strong and resilient. You inherited resiliency from me. That’s my superpower.”
“You knock me down, I bounce right up, and I keep coming back,” he continued. “I get up again and again and again.”
Of course, the message hits a sweet spot for Drew, who not only cared for her former co-star, but has two young kids of her own.
