HGTV has long been the go-to network for dream home makeovers, creative renovations, and getting design inspirations. In recent years, HGTV fans have been angrily watching as some of their favorite shows have been unexpectedly canceled or pulled from the schedule before it was time to say goodbye. Whether it was due to programming shifts, ratings decisions, or network strategy changes, these four shows were canceled too soon, leaving fans wishing for just one more season.
1. ‘Bargain Block’
“Bargain Block” was more than just a renovation show. This show spotlighted some amazing transformations of old, neglected houses into beautiful, affordable homes for families.
The team was based out of Detroit, Michigan, and was led by hosts Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas. They brought heart and creativity to every project and quickly won over a dedicated following.
HGTV did announce that “Bargain Block” was renewed for a fifth season. However, they ultimately changed their minds and canceled the show, leaving fans upset and questioning the decision to end a fan-favorite series.
HGTV fans loved the authentic vibe and community focus of “Bargain Block.” Many viewers thought the show would grow into one of HGTV’s breakout renovation hits. Its abrupt ending left many questions behind, especially as other, less innovative shows continued on the schedule.
2. ‘Farmhouse Fixer’
“Farmhouse Fixer” stood out for its warmth and genuine connection to New England heritage. The show was hosted by Jonathan Knight of New Kids on the Block alongside designer Kristina Crestin. It followed the duo as they restored charming historic farmhouses with care and creativity.
The show had a positive reception and a loyal fanbase, but that fanbase found itself without a show after three seasons. Many viewers felt “Farmhouse Fixer” offered something different than the typical HGTV show. It blended renovation with cultural preservation. However, it didn’t get the long run it deserved.
3. ‘Izzy Does It’
“Izzy Does It” gave fans a chance to see contractor Israel “Izzy” Battres shine in his own spotlight after years of appearances on other popular renovation shows. This show combined Izzy’s expert renovation skills with his lively personality. He would produce projects that were both practical and entertaining.
However, HGTV decided not to renew it after its first season. Many viewers thought HGTV ended it too soon, as they saw it as a fresh and exciting addition to the network lineup.
The show had just begun to find its footing, so the cancellation felt premature. This was especially true for fans who were hoping to see Izzy’s design evolution over time.
4. ‘Battle on the Beach’
“Battle on the Beach” was a show that brought beachside renovation competitions and eclectic design challenges to the network. It offered HGTV fans a refreshing and fun twist on traditional renovation shows.
It was hosted by fan favorites, including Alison Victoria and Ty Pennington. The series featured talented duos taking on beachfront properties with limited time, but with big ambitions.
The show had strong engagement and a solid run, but it was cancelled after four seasons. The cancellation left fans wanting more of its energetic and unpredictable format.
Fans of “Battle on the Beach” appreciated the show’s mix of competitive energy with creative design. These two elements helped set it apart from many other shows on HGTV.
What HGTV shows do you think were cancelled too soon?

Definitely Married to real estate. It is waaaaay better than the stupid idea of cheap — beach house. I hope it’s not because of a very successful black company. It is an AWESOME show. Bring it back NOW.
Exactly! Couldn’t get all the way through and episode of not so cheap beach houses, which looks suspiciously like another show renamed.
Many of the shows they kept are “”same old – same old”. Nothing innovated. Just different colors
Married to Real Estate for sure!!!! And Unsellable Houses…. These two were by far your most creative, real, “ sit down with family” shows that you cut since Fixer Upper left! Please Bring Them Back!
Whoever made the decisions to let those go that are listed should have definitely also listed Married To Real Estate and Unsellable Houses! Whoever made these decisions, didn’t seem to care about what HGTV’s viewers thought!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!
HGTV should never canceled BARGAIN BLOCK, FARMHOUSE FIXER and IZZY DOES IT! Period end of story! The shows they have now are just not that good (cheap ass beach houses, they ARE NOT cheap), (junk or jackpot, nothing to write home about), (neighborhood watch, REALLY, I do not even watch) Come on HGTV what the hell, get your act together.
I agree !! And watching 10 year old reruns of House Hunters is boring !!
Totally agree!!! These shows made me happy, excited, and in awe! I couldn’t wait for the reveals! And Keith, Evan (and Miss Shay) and Jonathan and Kristina had relationships with each other and their crafts that were both entertaining and spectacular!!!
Yes yes I agree. Bargain block and Izzy’s show I really liked cause it was more relatable in budget wise.
I stopped watching HGTV because they cancelled BARGAIN BLOCK a show fans wanted to be renewed
Farmhouse Fixer was a wonderful show and had such a great and funny dynamic between Jonathan and Kristina. Shame on HGTV! Bad choice!
Loved Farmhouse Fixer and Bargain Block. Rarely watch the brand new shows. They are just cheap knockoffs and I don’t enjoy them. As I have complained before, Neighborhood Watch is truly awful and I really do not care for Cheap Ass Beach Houses. The houses are not cheap and to me, the realtors are rather sleezy. What is going on HGTV. You used to be my “go to” channel. No longer.
FFarmhouse Fixer was my favorite! Such a great show!
Married to real estate and bargain block over any of the House hunter shows! Bring back both HGTV !
Absolutely agree!!!!!
HGTV got rid of the only shows worth watching! Whoever made this ridiculous decision should go! Oh wait they probably are making more money so it was good for them!
Married to Real Estate was my favorite HGTV show, because they really cared about the people they worked for and always did their best work for them. The viewers trusted Egypt Sharrod and Mike Jackson.
I miss Bargain Block ,Married to Real Estate and Izzy Does it. The HGTV execs who canceled them should be canceled themselves. I still watch old shows in my library but without commercials. Heartbreaking!
I used to watch HGTV every day/night. My TV pretty much stayed on the HGTV channel (with an occasional Food Network show). But since they’ve canceled so many good shows, the only HGTV show I watch is My Lottery Dream House. And that’s only because I love and want to support David Bromstad.
With 7 days in a week, 52 weeks, tv show usually 10 episodes WHY can’t there be all the shows. Prime hrs 7-8-9pm. 3×7=21. So 21 shows per season with 4 seasons that = 84 shows to watch. Oh but let’s play CONSTANT reruns all day long instead. Need better management!!!!!
Bargain Block was such an awesome show. The way they made homes so beautiful and affordable for people who otherwise may have never had the opportunity to be homeowners. The way they would gather furniture and fixtures from garbage day and revamp them was incredible. Keith could take sticks from the yard and make beautiful art out of it. Big big big mistake HGTV
Haven’t been watching HGTV much since they took off Bargain Block and Izzy. I like that Aloha one also the one in Hawaii but I haven’t seen any new ones lately.
Bargain Block, Unsellable Houses, Gray…
What happened to the show on Magnolia Network? How many times do we have to watch Jo and Chip’s shows?
I really am disappointed that Bargain Block was cancelled. Most viewers of the HGTV shows watch so they can take away designs to use in their own renovations. Bargain Block was the only show that showed viewers that you can have a great design that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg!
Really miss Bargain Block, Farmhouse Fixer. Don’t like the farmhouse repla. cement. Renovation Aloha seems to be way too expensive for native Hawaiians, who is buying these homes? So tired of Love It or List It, Beachfront, Lakefront are just rinse and repeat. Go many days not watching HGTV.
