Why Alison Victoria Believes She Lost a Hosting Gig Over a Slip of the Tongue

Popular “Battle on the Beach” is returning to HGTV this summer. However, there’s a cast shakeup in store. Ty Pennington will return to the beloved series, but Alison Victoria and Taniya Nayak will not.

After reflecting Alison Victoria thinks she knows why she wasn’t invited to return for season 5.

Alison Victoria Erroneously Stated HGTV Canceled ‘Battle on the Beach’

While Alison Victoria genuinely enjoyed her time on “Battle on the Beach,” she feels certain her podcast is to blame for the recasting.

In 2025, she told fans that the series had been canceled, which wasn’t entirely true.

“’Battle on the Beach’ did not get picked back up, which is sad because it was like adult spring break. But I believe it was all editing,” the podcast host shared on her show, “The Pap Smear Podcast,” last summer.

In hindsight, the “Windy City Rehab” star wishes she had chosen her words more carefully.

“It’s just conversation. I don’t have notes,” Alison Victoria told The Daily Mail recently. “I should be more prepared, but I’m not and she and I were just talking about different shows and I had said that ‘Battle on the Beach’ was canceled.”

“Now, that word should not have been used,” the HGTV personality added. “I should’ve said ‘not renewed.’ That’s the language that I should have used.”

Even though the 44-year-old feels a little sad she won’t get to return, she sincerely hopes the new season performs well.

“We started that show. No one will ever take that away from us. And we loved that show and we just had fun,” Alison told the outlet gracefully. “We made great television, and now it’s time to pass the torch and see what they’ve got. So only time will tell… I hope that the ratings are amazing.”

Ty Pennington Offers His Own Opinion On the ‘Battle on the Beach’ Situation

When “Battle on the Beach” returns, Ty Pennington will serve as one of the show’s mentors. HGTV personalities Mika Kleinschmidt and Sarah Baeumler will also mentor contestants.

Despite what Alison Victoria believed, Ty Pennington didn’t quite think HGTV canceled the series.

“I’ve been in the television industry for a long time. I just know when it comes to TV, nothing’s really canceled,” Pennington told TV Insider. “I think that’s a big word. Sometimes, people are just re-evaluating what is doing well, what they know they want to see more of.”

The HGTV star shared that fans always wanted more of “Battle on the Beach,” even as rumors about the show’s cancellation circled.

“I think that fans really like that show because you really see people working very hard with their own hands,” the “Trading Spaces” star told the outlet. “So, I think it’s one of those shows that you can tell the aggravation and the frustration of competing on a show like that, because you literally see them screaming in agony, not only with each other, but I think just at how hard it actually is. And I know that those kinds of shows resonate with fans, because we’ve all been there. We’ve all taken on a project where we’re like, ‘Why did I say yes to this?'”

Viewers can catch the “Battle on the Beach” season 5 premiere at 9 p.m. on Monday, June 1, on HGTV.
