Joe Looney became a fan-favorite during his time on HGTV‘s “Fixer to Fabulous.” The beloved carpenter, who, along with his son Chase Looney, often helped Jenny and Dave Marrs with their projects, largely retired in 2023.
Find out what the beloved star is up to today!
Joe Looney Retired
Prior to finding reality TV fame alongside the Marrses, Joe worked as a firefighter. He got his start with the “Fixer to Fabulous” couple after Dave requested to work with Joe’s son, Chase.
“Me and [Joe] have been a duo since I was about 14,” Chase told San Antonio Magazine in September 2022. “I started working for him around then. When the show came around, Dave told me, ‘I won’t do it without you, Chase.’ I said, ‘That’s fine — I won’t do it without my dad.’ So, basically, from the beginning, my dad was a big part.”
The father-son duo quickly became fan favorites. However, in early 2023, it was revealed that Joe was suffering from back pain, though he continued to work throughout his recovery.
Later that year, however, it seemed that ailments had gotten the best of him and Joe announced his retirement.
“I can’t imagine doing this without him by our side, but I’m grateful for the many years (so many pre-TV) with this amazing human,” Jenny announced via Instagram in December 2023. “He deserves a little rest, and we all sent him off to retirement with a whole lot of love (and requests to just pop by anytime he’d like).”
Where Is Joe Looney Today?
Nearly three years after seemingly hanging up his tool belt, Joe appears to still be working alongside the Marrs couple.
“Come along for a day behind the scenes with us—from job site visits and design decisions to meetings, problem-solving, and everything in between. Renovating homes is only part of what our days look like, and we’re grateful you get to be along for the journey,” Jenny captioned a “day in the life” post shared in August 2026.
Fans were quick to notice Joe in the background of the video, with many commenting on his apparent involvement on current projects.
“Joe!!! His adoring fans miss him!” one fan wrote.
“👏👏hope Joe is doing well can’t wait for next season,” another fan wrote.
Jenny and Dave responded that Joe is “doing fabulous.”
“Hope Joes is on show often! Joe and Jenny always makes me giggle on their beer runs or just goofing around!” a third chimed in.
“Oh Joe. Your dynamic is the best with him Jenny. Love seeing him!” another fan added.
Jenny recently teased Joe’s return to “Fixer to Fabulous” for season 8.
“We just told him, ‘Just come hang out. You don’t have to do any actual physical work.’ But he can’t help himself,” Jenny told TV Insider in June. “And so, then he’s in pain, and then he has to take a break. But I just love having him back. It’s been so fun just to have Joe there because he’s just, he’s Joe. He’s so sweet and fun and hilarious, and he has a dry sense of humor. Yeah, so it’s been good.”
