“Renovation Aloha” stars Kamohai and Tristyn Kalama shared a hopeful update following the devastating Hurricane Lala that touched down in their home state of Hawaii.
The HGTV couple previously asked fans for prayers amid the devastating storm.
Hurricane Update
The Hawaii natives took to social media on Saturday, August 22, to share an update following the storm.
“Another week in the books. 🤙🏽 A little heavy, a little hectic, a lot to be grateful for. We made it. 🙏🏽,” they captioned a video shared to their joint Instagram profile.
In the clip, Kamohai was seen moving things in and out of their storage facility, attending their child’s soccer game, and working away on a computer.
“It’s Saturday. Which means we made it through another week,” he said over the montage video. “This week definitely felt a little heavier than normal.”
He explained that his wife “hasn’t been feeling good” and is taking time to recover.
“On top of that, it’s been a pretty heavy week here in Hawaii in the aftermath of hurricane-turned-tropical storm Lala,” he added. “There are still families without power, cleaning up and recovering.”
When asked by one fan whether their family home or renovation projects sustained “hurricane damage,” Kamohai responded, “We are good over here.”
Earlier this month, Kamohai and Tristyn asked fans for prayers for their community in a heartfelt back to school update.
“Nothing super profound over here, just making brownies, hanging with the family, and praying that Hurricane Lala passes over the island quickly and does not leave a ton of damage,” Tristyn said in a video shared to Instagram on August 16.
She added via her Instagram Story, “Rain and winds since 2 a.m. No power as of 5 a.m. We are hunkered down. It will pass. Until then, laptop movie, candles, cards, and snuggles.”
The couple later thanked fans for their prayers, saying, “There are people in much worse situations than us. Thank you everybody … we are hunkering down. It’s still on and off rain and winds — no power, but we’re doing good…There’s a lot of people in worse situations than us, so please continue to pray for our community.”
Renovation Projects
Despite the trying times, Kamohai and Tristyn continue to push forward with their renovation business.
“We also had one long day spent pretty much entirely on Zoom. It was frustrating and exhausting, but we’re hopeful that there is progress coming soon,” Kamohai said in his Saturday, August 22, update. “It was another reminder that not every productive day actually feels productive. Sometimes you just keep showing up, handle what’s in front of you, and trust that things will eventually move forward.”
He went on to share that they are “finishing up a bunch of client projects,” as well as taking on new projects and working on “several” redevelopment projects.
“There’s one in particular we’re really excited about,” he shared. “This house was basically unlivable when we got it. It’s now finishing up the rough-in phase and turning into an amazing single-family home.”
