Iconic English musician and record producer William Orbit — whose real name was William Mark Wainwright — has sadly passed away at the age of 69.
Orbit was born on December 15, 1956, in London. He passed away on Thursday, July 23, but the news has only just hit the internet. The star’s cause of death is not yet public knowledge.
A statement on his social media confirmed his passing.
William Orbit’s Family & Friends Announced His Passing ‘With Profound Sadness’
In a post on William Orbit’s Instagram page, the star’s family and friends shared the news of his sad passing with his 20,000+ followers.
The post include a single image, with a black background and white text which began “William Orbit” followed by his birth daye of “15 December 1956 – 23 July 2026” and a dove emoji.
A three-paragraph caption begins, “It is with profound sadness” that the family and friends of William Orbit announce that William passed away at home on 23rd July 2026.”
The caption continues, “We are deeply saddened by his passing. He will be greatly missed by us and by so many whose lives he touched through his music, friendship and kindness.”
It concludes, “We kindly ask that the privacy of William’s family and close friends is respected during this difficult time.”
As well as producing his own music, such as an iconic dance version of “Barber’s Adagio for Strings” in 1999, he also worked with countless huge names in the music industry.
Those names included Madonna, Pink, Blur, Ricky Martin, U2, Britney Spears, Melanie C, Beth Orton, All Saints, No Doubt, Finley Quaye, Robbie Williams, Katie Melua, and Chris Brown.
Perhaps most notably, he was the executive producer of Madonna’s 1998 seventh studio album “Ray Of Light.” Per NME, he won three Grammy Awards at the 1999 ceremony for his work on it.
