Subscription streaming service Netflix continues to be a veritable cornucopia of brilliant entertainment. New movies and television shows regularly arrive on the popular platform. The coming months are no different in that regard.

April 2026 is coming to an end. Let’s take a look at the exciting new movies set to hit Netflix over the next few weeks in May.


Swapped (Friday, May 1)

“Swapped.”

Directed by “Tangled’s” Nathan Greno, “Swapped” is an animated comedy featuring the voices of recent Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan, Juno Temple, Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, and Justina Machado.

Per IMDb, the plot is as follows: “A tiny woodland creature and a majestic bird suddenly swap bodies, forcing them to team up to survive the wildest adventure of their lives.”


My Dearest Assassin (Thursday, May 7)

“My Dearest Assassin” is a Thai action thriller with “Death Whisperer’s” Taweewat Wantha as its director. It stars Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, Tor Thanapob Leeratanakachorn, and Sivakorn Adulsuttikul.

Per IMDb, its plot is as follows: “Hunted for her rare blood type, a caged woman vows to fight alongside the assassin she loves to protect their future when an old enemy resurfaces.”


Remarkably Bright Creatures (Friday, May 8)

Directed by “Where the Crawdads Sing’s” Olivia Newman, “Remarkably Bright Creatures” is a mystery drama movie. Its impressive ensemble cast comprises Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Colm Meaney, and Alfred Molina.

Per IMDb, this is the movie’s plot: “Through unlikely bonds formed during night shifts at a local aquarium, Tova, an elderly widow, learns of a life-changing discovery that may bring her joy and wonder once again.”


Marty, Life Is Short (Tuesday, May 12)

Directed by “Silverado’s” Lawrence Kasdan, “Marty, Life Is Short” is a documentary movie about the much-loved Martin Short. The film features contributions from the likes of Deborah Divine, Tom Hanks, and Laurie MacDonald.

Per IMDb, the description of the documentary is as follows: “The definitive documentary on comedian Martin Short, exploring his career across film, television, theater and comedy.”


The Crash (Friday, May 15)

Directed by Gareth Johnson, “The Crash” is a true crime documentary. Johnson previously directed episodes of television shows like “The Island with Bear Grylls,” “Banged Up Abroad,” and “Bear Grylls: Escape from Hell.”

Per IMDb, the documentary is described as follows: “Follows the Mackenzie Shirilla case, a 17-year-old who intentionally crashed her car into a brick wall in Ohio, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo and his friend Davion Flanagan. She was convicted of 12 felonies.”


Ladies First (Friday, May 22)

British theatre and film director Thea Sharrock directed the rom-com “Ladies First,” which Éléonore Pourriat’s 2018 French film “I Am Not an Easy Man” provided some inspiration for. Its eye-catching cast includes Sacha Baron Cohen, Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Emily Mortimer, Charles Dance, Fiona Shaw, Tom Davis, and Kathryn Hunter.

Per IMDb, this is the movie’s plot: “A male chauvinist is transported to a matriarchal society, facing challenges from a formidable female version of himself.”
