That news comes despite the fact that filming on the season has wrapped, with Netflix initially positioning it to release during the final quarter of 2026. Those plans have seemingly changed, with the streamer shifting its plans so that the last batch of episodes will not arrive until next year.
Netflix has yet to officially announce a Season 5 premiere date or confirm the reported delay.
The news means viewers could potentially face a gap of well over a year between the fourth and fifth seasons of the fantasy drama.
‘The Witcher’ Season 5 Removed From Marketing Material
Filming for the fifth season of the show took place at the same time as the fourth season, with Netflix announcing Season 5 before Season 4 had been released. So it is unclear exactly what has caused the delay, as it is unlikely to be a problem with the shoot.
The fourth season premiered in October 2025, with Liam Hemsworth making his debut as Geralt of Rivia following the departure of Henry Cavill. This would mean that there will be at least a gap of a year between the launch of Season 4 and Season 5.
Netflix had previously promoted the last installment of “The Witcher” for a late 2026 release in marketing material, including it in its upcoming slate of releases. However, those references have recently been removed. Most notably, an August 7 article from What’s On Netflix makes no reference to the series.
No official explanation has been given for the apparent scheduling change and there is still no official date for when the show will conclude.
Season 5 Will Bring ‘The Witcher’ to an End
