Serayah is choosing herself following the end of her engagement to Joey Badass.
The actress and singer announced on Monday, August 24, that she had ended her relationship with the rapper after several years together. In an emotional Instagram statement, Serayah alleged that Joey had been repeatedly unfaithful during their relationship.
Joey has not publicly responded to the allegations.
Serayah Announced the End of Her Engagement
Serayah said she reached the decision after taking time to consider the future of their relationship.
“After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child, Joey,” she wrote in her Instagram statement.
The “Empire” alum explained that she had loved Joey deeply and believed in the life they were building together. However, she said she eventually had to confront what she described as a painful pattern.
“Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life,” she alleged.
Serayah did not provide details about the alleged incidents or identify any other people involved.
She Shared a Message About Self-Worth
Although Serayah disclosed the reason behind her decision, she said her statement was not intended as retaliation or an attempt to publicly tear Joey down.
Instead, she turned the difficult experience into a broader message for women who may be questioning their instincts within a relationship.
“If your intuition is telling you something is wrong, listen to it,” she wrote.
Serayah also urged women not to diminish themselves to keep another person comfortable or compromise their values because they are afraid of losing a relationship.
“Don’t allow someone else’s choices to become a referendum on your worth,” she continued. “Love should not require you to abandon yourself.”
Serayah Set a Boundary Around the Breakup
Serayah made it clear that her initial statement would also be her final public discussion of the relationship’s intimate details.
The former couple shares a son, whom they welcomed in 2025. Serayah said protecting his privacy, peace and relationship with both parents would remain her priority.
“For that reason, I won’t be discussing the intimate details of our relationship publicly beyond what I have shared here,” she wrote.
Serayah and Joey Began Dating in 2023
Serayah and Joey first met through mutual friends in 2021. Joey later recalled being immediately struck by her beauty and presence, while Serayah described him as mysterious and magnetic.
Dating rumors emerged after Serayah appeared in Joey’s “Show Me” music video. He initially described them as friends, but confirmed their relationship with a birthday tribute to Serayah in June 2023.
They welcomed their son in 2025 and announced their engagement shortly afterward. Serayah previously praised Joey for supporting her during the postpartum period, describing him as someone who had “held it down,” according to People.
Just over a year later, their engagement has come to an end. “This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would,” Serayah concluded. “But endings can also be beginnings.”
