4 Shows Not Returning to Hulu

Hulu is one of the most popular streaming services on the market. Of course, this is partly because the streamer premieres several new shows each year. Unfortunately, some of what many would call its best series get canceled too soon. Here are eight that won’t be returning, including “Tell Me Lies,” which recently ended.

It’s worth noting that not all shows listed were all-out canceled. Instead, some had what the creative teams behind them thought was a satisfying run. After all, as many would agree, it’s best for great shows not to outstay their welcome.

“Tell Me Lies” premiered on Hulu in 2022. The drama series stars Grace Van Patten, Jackson White, Catherine Missal, and Thomas Doherty, and is based on Carola Lovering’s novel of the same name. The most recent season of the show arrived on the streaming platform in January 2026, with eight episodes.

According to US Weekly, the creator, Meaghan Oppenheimer, confirmed the show’s cancellation in February.

She said on social media, “After three amazing seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale. This was always the ending my writing team and I had in mind, and we are insanely proud of it. Your incredible response to this season inspired us to explore whether there was another organic way to continue the story, but ultimately we felt it had reached its natural conclusion.”

‘Mid-Century Modern’ Was Canceled by Hulu

Hulu premiered comedy series “Mid-Century Modern” in March 2025. Led by Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, and Nathan Lee Graham, the show quickly garnered high praise. For instance, critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the show an 88% ratings, and audiences gave it an 80%. Both scores are well beyond “certified fresh.”

According to Deadline, the show was then canceled months later in September. Co-creator Max Mutchnick announced the news on social media. He said, in part, “Ten great episodes… Not enough.”

‘How to Die Alone’ Won’t Be Returning

“How to Die Alone,” created by and starring actress Natasha Rothwell, premiered on Hulu in September 2024 via a partnership with Onyx Collective. The half-hour comedy quickly gained an audience, as demonstrated by its presence on social media. Additionally, it was praised by critics, earning a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to Variety, the show was canceled in February 2025. Rothwell released a statement to the outlet, saying, in part, that she was “shocked, heartbroken, and frankly, baffled.” However, an insider reported that viewership wasn’t strong enough to warrant a second season.

Hulu Canceled ‘Death and Other Details’

Hulu premiered mystery series “Death and Other Details” in January 2024. The show features Violett Beane, Lauren Patten, Angela Zhou, and Hugo Diego Garcia. Unfortunately, the show wasn’t particularly well-received by critics, currently sitting at 55% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Still, the show had its fans, so the news of its being canceled in March 2024 came as a blow. Upon reporting its cancellation, Variety confirmed that the series had never made it onto the Neilson top 10 chart, meaning it didn’t have the viewership to sustain a second season.
