Reality television personality and star of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” Angie Katsanevas has revealed how important the experience of switching lives with an everyday mother was after appearing in “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition.” In an emotional moment, Katsanevas explains how her recent adventure has given her a new perspective on her own life.
Angie Katsanevas Explains Why She Needed Wife Swap Experience
“Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition” is a new Bravo spin-off that sees familiar faces from the world of “The Real Housewives” franchise swap lives with normal mothers who live everyday lives. Each episode charts one reality star switching how they live and the challenges that come along with it.
Speaking near the conclusion of the first episode, Katsanevas confessed to fellow mom Lindsay Flake that the experience was a much-needed one. “It’s strange that you have to go so far away from your own life to see it,” she says. “I needed to have this experience, so thank you.”
The raw moment occurs when Katsanevas arrives back to her usual home and encounters her real husband Shawn Trujillo alongside Flake. After an emotional reunion and a discussion about each other’s children, Katsanevas explains that Flake’s way of life is so demanding, saying, “It’s so crazy because I feel like I haven’t been here forever.”
“And I think part of that is just living your life. And after seeing your to-do list and seeing what Tanner does, you guys work really hard on your property.”
Katsanevas went on to tell Flake that she had originally thought that her family was missing out when she first arrived at their homestead but changed her mind after living with the off-the-grid group. “But then, when I saw that you guys have everything, it’s beautiful,” says the reality star. “And I felt some, I felt guilty. Yeah, I did. Sorry for even saying it. I feel like I felt guilty that I even thought that. It’s strange that you have to go so far away from your own life.”

Katsanevas’ shock at her new family life in the show arises because Flake lives off-grid in a homestead. She and her husband had sold their original family home back in February with the hopes of living a more meaningful life. Along with their three children and dog, the couple revealed that they wanted to live without modern distractions.
Writing on Instagram, Flake explained, “We want a life built by our own hands, where we rely on ourselves, not what society tells us we should have.”
“No mortgage. No debt. No ties holding us back. We’re choosing freedom—an off-grid homestead, self-sufficiency, and a future where our hard work provides directly for our family, not a bank or a bill. We’re leaving behind what no longer serves us because what’s ahead is exactly where we’re meant to be. This is our path, our vision, and we’re all in. No looking back.”

I loved how Angie allowed herself to be real, even not wearing makeup in some of the scenes. I also felt that Angie really enjoyed the younger children.
