The anchor’s absence was addressed by “Today” host Savannah Guthrie, who simply told viewers that Roker “had to leave a little bit early.” Since Guthrie failed to offer any further explanation, fans began speculating what Roker’s emergency was.

Melvin promised that Roker would “be back tomorrow” without revealing what the reason for his absence was. In a video uploaded to Instagram, Roker can be seen standing outside a New York City courthouse. The weatherman was in good spirits, dressed in a gray suit and tan fedora. Roker gleefully revealed he was there for jury duty, something he absolutely loves. He also joked about saying “duty twice,” showing his sense of humor to his fans.
Al Roker Has Delayed Jury Duty To December To Accommodate His Schedule
Fans don’t have to worry about Roker’s continued absence from the screen. The 71-year-old provided an update to his Instagram post in a comment. In it, Roker confirmed he would be back at the “Today” set because he was able to postpone his jury duty commitment.
“To update you, I got a postponement til December when work is a little less crazy. But I LOVE jury duty,” he wrote in the Instagram comment section. “I know I am fortunate that my company pays me while I’m serving in a jury. Not everyone has that luxury. Doing your civic duty should NOT be a hardship.”
Roker’s post had earlier received glowing comments in his favor. Fans and friends praised the weathercaster for appreciating his civic duty. Some voiced admiration for retaining a positive attitude despite having to leave his workplace during the show. Others praised his work ethic and commitment to whatever duty he’s summoned to.
