This isn’t about me, it’s about what’s best for the story.”
Read on to discover what else Anchondo had to say about his emotional exit from “General Hospital.”
Adrian Anchondo Reflects on His ‘General Hospital’ Journey
Anchondo began his Instagram message by honoring his late mother, who played a meaningful role in his journey to “General Hospital.” The actor, now 42, lost his mom when he was just 28. His mom, a big daytime fan who regularly tuned in to both “GH” and “The Young and the Restless,” passed away at just 46.
In his reflection on his “GH” journey, Anchondo shared, “I started this journey with a story about my mother, how she was with me in spirit at my screen test for Marco, hiding in the compact she used to do her makeup in while she watched soap operas on the couch.”
The soap star went on to admit he knows how proud his mom would have been of him for the work he did on “GH” this past year, adding, “She is proud of me for showing up every day and leading with kindness and respect, for fighting through my insecurities and anxiety, and for letting my heart shine through a character that had questionable intentions.”
Anchondo’s words highlighted just how personal his time on “GH” truly was.
Anchondo Addresses Fans and Representation
Along with honoring his late mother, Anchondo also took time to address fans and the communities he represented on screen. As a proud Latino man and member of the LGBTQI community, he reflected on the importance of that visibility, writing, “I’m also proud of myself for doing the work, for representing the LGBTQI and Latino community.”
He also shared a heartfelt message directly to fans who connected with his story, adding, “To my queer fans, don’t be discouraged, we will keep spreading our love and fighting for that happy ending.”
On “General Hospital,” Anchondo’s character, Marco Rios, was romantically linked to Dr. Lucas Jones, played by Van Hansis. Off-screen, Anchondo has shared with fans that he is in a relationship with fellow soap star Colton Little. Anchondo’s boyfriend stars on Days of Our Lives as Andrew Donovan.
The “GH” star directly addressed his boyfriend as well, writing, “Thank you @littlecolton for being by my side, running lines, hyping me up, and holding me through the sad parts.”
Anchondo’s touching message not only reflects his personal journey but also underscores the impact his role had on viewers who saw themselves represented on screen.
The ‘GH’ Star Pens a Heartfelt Message to His Co-Stars
In his farewell message, Anchondo couldn’t forget to thank his co-stars who made his time in Port Charles such a memorable experience.
He gave special recognition to three co-stars, including Nancy Lee Grahn, who played his law partner Alexis Davis, Carlo Rota, who portrayed his on-screen father, and Van Hansis, who played his on-screen love interest.
Reflecting on those relationships, Anchondo wrote,” Thank you to the amazing cast especially @nancyleegrahn for your wisdom and kindness @carlodanterota for your support, guidance, and friendship, and of course to my amazing friend @van.hansis for holding my hand in more ways than one – you made it easy to fall in love with you.”
The soap star closed out his message with a heartfelt farewell, writing, “That’s a wrap on Marco! I hope everyone loved him as much as I did. We went out with a bang.” As for Anchondo, as he said himself, he’s “on to the next big thing.”

So sad to hear that you are leaving GH! I enjoyed “your Marco”and your acting. I am sure we’ll be seeing you again on another program! I bet your dear mother would have said, “Everything happens for a reason” …and how true that is! I have always said this to my 3 sons!
Good luck and God bless! NR
