Jesse Lee Soffer is teaming up with former “Chicago PD” showrunner Matt Olmstead for a new project, “Strike Force.” It stages a huge reunion, and now fans hope for more to come.
The project is still in development at CBS, with plans for it to air during the 2027–2028 TV season. It’s not unusual for broadcast networks to plan a year in advance, allowing for pilot episodes to be filmed and considered by the network. Most final decisions are then made around April or May to determine the next season.
Jesse Lee Soffer and Matt Olmstead Team Up Again
GettyIt’s not the first time the duo has teamed up on TV. Soffer joined Olmstead on “FBI: International” for its fourth, and sadly final, season. Before that, they worked together on “Chicago PD,” and fans of the “One Chicago” franchise are ready to see more cameos.
On top of leading the project, Soffer will also be an executive producer, offering him more say about where the series goes. It will follow him playing a battle-tested DEA agent who goes home to Kansas City. He becomes the lead of a multi-agency project called “Strike Force,” which is focused on targeting the violent criminals who look to exploit and harm the country.
While this is a fun “Chicago PD” reunion for the two of them, there are some changes behind-the-scenes. Unlike the previous two shows, this isn’t a Dick Wolf production. Instead, it hails from Jerry Bruckheimer Television, which has “Sheriff Country,” “Fire Country,” and “Boston Blue” on Friday nights on CBS. CBS Studios will also help to produce, which increases the chances of it being picked up to series, as it doesn’t need licensing, as the “FBI” franchise on the network has needed.
However, this is just one of five projects now in development for the next TV season. It will mean more cancellations need to happen if all of them are to get off the ground.
‘Chicago PD’ Fans Want to See Specific Cameos

With the USA Network series, fans are looking at Soffer to play some sort of villain, but it’s not Spiridakos that fans are asking to come over to Soffer’s new series. It’s all about Jason Beghe, who plays Sergeant Hank Voit on the series.
This isn’t too surprising when you consider the volatile relationship Soffer’s Halstead had with Voight for almost 10 seasons. The two would regularly butt heads over the best way to tackle a situation and handle a criminal, and it meant for some juicy on-screen moments. That energy would be a lot of fun for many fans to see again.
Another request was for LaRoyce Hawkins to join the series. He plays Kevin Atwater on “Chicago PD,” and his schedule is about to open as the character will be written out of the upcoming 14th season of the series. Atwater and Halstead had some strong, friendly moments on the show, and fans would like to see them back on the screen together.
Of course, fans would love to see Soffer return to “Chicago PD” once more. After leaving during the third episode of Season 10, Soffer returned during the 2026 “One Chicago” crossover event. It was the first time Halstead and Upton saw each other after Halstead left, leaving their marriage in tatters, and the three-hour event left the two with hope for the future. “One Chicago” fans would like to see the outcome of the way that crossover ended.
