Viewers have really responded to “Sheriff Country,” the hit CBS spinoff of “Fire Country.”
Featuring Morena Baccarin as small-town sheriff Mickey Fox, the series effortlessly blends family drama with cop-show action, generating solid ratings that have granted the show another season in the fall.
When “Sheriff Country” does return to the CBS lineup, fans of Baccarin can expect to see a familiar face joining the fray: her real-life husband and former “Gotham” co-star Ben McKenzie.
‘A New Sheriff in Town’
Baccarin shared the news in a hilarious Instagram video.
She’s seen entering a room in the police station set, dressed in her uniform — only to encounter her husband, also wearing a sheriff’s uniform.
“There’s a new sheriff in town…” Baccarin wrote in the caption.
A First for ‘Sheriff Country’
CBSWhile McKenzie and Baccarin were longtime co-stars on Fox’s Batman-inspired series “Gotham,” this will mark the first time the real-life spouses will appear together onscreen in “Sheriff Country.”
McKenzie will appear in the Season 2 premiere as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring sheriff who is called in to assist Mickey on a case.
“As Sheriff Mickey Fox struggles to process a shocking revelation about her family, she races to save a troubled young woman whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation uncovers a growing threat to all of Edgewater,” reads the official episode description. “Ben McKenzie guest stars as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring Sheriff who is called in to assist Sheriff Mickey, and has a few secrets of his own.”
‘My Best Investment’
GettyWhile promoting his new documentary about cryptocurrency, “Everyone Is Lying to You for Money,” McKenzie told Us Weekly that asking Baccarin to marry him was the best decision he ever made.
“You’re gonna think this is cheesy, but it’s my relationship with my wife,” McKenzie gushed about his wife.
“It is so hard in life to do it on your own … I’m just deeply grateful for meeting her and for her being brave enough, foolish enough, to marry me,” he added. “Best investment, by far.”
He also praised Baccarin’s performance in his new film.
“Morena is so fantastic in the movie … she’s kind of a surrogate for every woman in the world,” he continued. “Because I cannot tell you how many women have told me that they have some guy who keeps telling them about crypto — it’s a very male phenomenon.”
He admitted that even though Baccarin was not terribly well versed in the ins and outs of cryptocurrency, she was nevertheless happy to lend her services to the movie.
“So, Morena’s interest in crypto is zero, as is my kids’,” he shared, “but she has been so gracious and so supportive letting me do this crazy thing.”
Speaking about the film, McKenzie added, “I hope people will be entertained. Everyone knows somebody who’s invested in cryptocurrency, but the point of the doc is not really to speak to [the] five to six percent of the population that’s really into it. The point is to speak to the rest of us, the 80-plus percent of the country that’s never bought crypto. The vast majority of the public is very skeptical of it, because all they read about is the crime and the corruption and the people who lose their money.”
The second season of “Sheriff Country” kicks off on Friday, October 9.
