Savannah Guthrie made a rare comment about her mom, Nancy Guthrie, 84, on the ‘Today’ show, seven months into her disappearance. She spoke of Nancy’s Irish heritage on Thursday’s episode, saying, “My mother’s family – my mother was Irish, [as was] her grandmother,” adding, “They were from Galway.”
The NBC co-host’s comment comes after a major announcement that she and her colleagues would be packing their bags and heading to Ireland to film a series of live episodes.
“I love that we’re all going,” Savannah gushed on the show. “I’ve never been to Ireland.”
Notably, Guthrie’s comment was framed in the past tense, as she has previously acknowledged that her mother may be dead after her February abduction from her Arizona home.

“She may already be gone. She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in Heaven with her mom and her dad and with her beloved brother Pierce and with our daddy, [Charles Guthrie],” Savannah added.
Speaking on behalf of herself and her siblings, Camron Guthrie and Annie Guthrie, the ‘Today’ host added, “And if this is what is to be, then we will accept it, but we need to know where she is,” she continued on behalf of herself and siblings Camron Guthrie and Annie Guthrie. “We need her to come home.”
Navigating Her Loss
GettySavannah returned to the “Today” show back in April after taking off two months to be with her family in their tragic loss. She shared her most recent message to her mother’s kidnappers on social media in August.
“Every day, we wake up and try to be strong and go on – because that’s what our joyful and resilient Mom taught us to do,” she wrote on Instagram last month. “But make no mistake – our hearts are in ruins.”
“We spend every waking moment thinking of her, longing for her, looking for her. There is a hole inside us that can never be filled. There is an ache that cannot be softened,” Savannah added.
“And there is a determination in us that cannot be quenched — to find out what happened to her, so that we can give her the dignity of a proper goodbye — a celebration of her remarkable life that she so deserves,” she concluded.
Savannah and the whole Guthrie family have offered a $1 million reward for information leading to Nancy’s “miracle” return. Meanwhile, there is warmer news for the family.
‘Today’ Show Heads To Ireland
-The “Today” show made the announcement on the morning of September 10, writing, “TODAY is packing its bags and taking the show across the pond! In a special TODAY extravaganza, NBC is taking the entire show on the road to broadcast LIVE from Ireland on a one-of-a-kind adventure.”
The show announced that it will be broadcasting live from the Sheen Falls Lodge in County Kerry, Ireland, on Friday, October 16. All the “Today” hosts will be there, along with some special guests and friends of the show.
Notably, Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly, Dylan Dreyer, Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones will travel to Ireland to enjoy the beautiful views, sample the local food and drink, and meet the Irish people.
The show announced that the trip is sponsored by Tourism Ireland and the Sheen Falls Lodge is set to be the venue. The show invited fans to join them for the trip, saying that the space is limited, but encouraging them to register for the free live broadcast here.
