“Outer Banks” has come to an end after five wonderful seasons. There is currently talk of a prequel series set 20 years before the events of the Netflix show, but that’s still in the development stage. That means a long wait, and you need to watch something new right now.
The great news is there are some excellent adventures to head out on, whether you want to stick to your Netflix subscription or if you’re looking to branch out. It all depends on the exact vibe that you want to repeat from “Outer Banks,” as there’s nothing quite like the treasure hunt fans went on with the Pogues. Nothing brings the same family drama or mystery.
Here are five must-watch shows to binge after “Outer Banks.”
‘One Piece’
Stick with Netflix for the first binge, and you’re heading to open waters and another search for treasure. “One Piece” is the Netflix live adaptation of the same-titled anime series. It follows Monkey D. Luffy on his journey to find the One Piece and become King of the Pirates. Along his journey, he finds his crew, who aren’t quite as on board with the idea of becoming part of the Straw Hats or finding the One Piece.
With two seasons so far and a third on the way, “One Piece” is a high-stakes adventure. There are miniature storylines during the seasons to help offer various characters their own backstory. We get a found-family tale, with absolutely everyone bringing something to the crew, even if it wouldn’t initially feel like they have a lot to offer. There’s no way you can’t root for Luffy’s journey to become King of the Pirates.
‘Lupin’
How about a show that is packed with heists? “Lupin” is the series for you, and it’s another that you can stream on Netflix right now. This is a French-language show, so you have the choice of English subtitles or the dubbing. As there’s a lot at stake through visual cues, the dubbing is probably the best way to go.
The series is inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin, created in the 1990s, known as “the world’s gentlethief.” Played by Omar Sy, Assane Diop wants to get revenge, but not against the have-nots. He’s out to take down a billionaire, and mixed with his other heists, he ends up on the French authorities’ radar. This is perfect for those who wanted the fast-paced treasure adventure and the mystery that unraveled during early seasons of “Outer Banks.”
‘Yellowjackets’
Part of “Outer Banks” brought a survival-like storyline. The Pogues had to figure things out for themselves, especially when they ended up on a desert island for a while. So, you probably want another show that offers that type of vibe. “Yellowjackets” on Paramount+ is the one to check out next, bringing a storyline told over the course of two time periods.
While the first is in the present day, following the now-adults who deal with a mystery from their past, as it seems like someone is out to get them, the second is told in the 1990s. Fans get to see the plane crash that the group of high schoolers survived, and then the realization that nobody is coming to get them. As they fight to survive, they make shocking decisions, grieve the loss of friends, and suffer the consequences of their actions. This is one of those stories where you start to root for someone and then question whether they are the heroes of the story, making for some fascinating character development.
‘The Wilds’
Like “Yellowjackets,” the series starts with a plane crash. However, “The Wilds” on Prime Video quickly proves it is something else entirely. It’s packed with survival, friendships, and conspiracy as secrets are revealed. How well can a group of teenage girls survive on an island after a plane crash, and how are there cameras there?
One of the great things about this show is that we see the realities of survival. “The Wilds” focuses on how a group of kids would form bonds and packs, and how being sisters isn’t always a sure-fire way to stick together. As you realize that some know more than others, more questions start to develop, and suddenly, you’re into the rabbit hole of the mystery. Sadly, it was abruptly canceled after two seasons, but those two seasons are more than worth a binge.
‘Marvel’s Runaways’
Every child thinks their parent is evil, right? There’s always that opinion that they’re making you do chores because they’re bad. Well, we all know that’s not the case, but for the kids in “Marvel’s Runaways,” their parents are literally evil. These parents work together, running an organization called Pride, and the teens join together to get out from under their wing.
At first, you wouldn’t think a series with superheroes in the Marvel universe would be a good option for “Outer Banks” fans. As you start to look into it more, you’ll see that there are some heavy similarities. “Runaways” is a series following a group of teenagers who suddenly find themselves on their own. They need to rely on each other if they want to survive, as they try to avoid their parents finding them. Mixed with various secrets and conspiracies coming to light, it’s a wonderful adventure to check out on Hulu.
