Fans are thrilled at the return of beloved HGTV star Carter Oosterhouse.
Carter—who made his return on the new competition series “Totally ’90s House“—had largely stepped away from the network before his exciting return.

Just days after the series premiere of “Totally ’90s House,” fans took to social media to share the excitement about seeing Oosterhouse on their screens once again.
“Can I start an official Carter appreciation thread? So excited to see him back on TV! He’s a sincerely great guy – we grew up in the same Northern Michigan town and he even graduated from the same high school as my older sister (Class of ’96 and ’97 respectively),” one fan shared via Reddit on Friday, September 4. “He really is a fanstastic person. Comes from a very tight knit family and has been out of the spotlight the last so umm years running a fantastic winery with satiny, delectible whites. I know this subreddit has been really angry about a lot of HGTV’s recent choices but I gotta say, this is one that they got right. Yay for Carter – Beyond excited to see him on TV again <3.”
Dozens of loyal HGTV viewers agreed, taking to the comments section to share their thoughts on his return.
“He was at his winery when we visited there a few years ago. I had no idea who he was, but my family did. None of them would approach him. I did. We had a wonderful chat, he introduced me to his mom and his kids. He was super nice,” one fan reminisced.
Another voiced that “HGTV should have ALL the Trading Spaces talent on their roster.”
“If nothing else, the Carter – Vern reunion was kinda really sweet and heart melting <3,” a third noted.
Yet another added, “I’m from the same area as you! So rare for someone to become such a big celebrity from that area so I’m always cheering for him- and he’s seems like such a good guy! We love the show Christmas light fight and have watched him on that for the last 5 or so years.”
Where Has Carter Been?
Carter got his start on TLC’s home renovation series, “Trading Spaces,” in 2003—joining during the show’s fourth season. He later appeared in the spinoffs, “Trading Spaces: Family” and “Trading Spaces: Boys v. Girls.”
Following his time on TLC, Oostershouse made appearances on shows like “The Today Show,” “The CBS Early Show,” “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” and “The View.”
He made his HGTV debut in 2007 with his own series, “Carter Can,” later adding “The Inside Job” and “Red Hot & Green.”
In the years since, he has made sporadic appearances on shows like “Million Dollar Rooms” as a judge, and as the host of “The Great Christmas Light Fight” alongside Taniya Nayak.
He currently runs his winery, Bonobo Winery, in Michigan and maintains his family farm with wife, actress Amy Smart. The couple — who tied the knot in 2011—share 9-year-old daughter, Flora, whom they welcomed via surrogate.
