Savannah Guthrie may be away from the “Today” show while filming her upcoming Wordle game show, but she’s still surrounded by the people who know her best. A heartfelt new photo shared by former co-anchor Hoda Kotb has fans flooding the comments with messages of love and support as Guthrie continues navigating one of the most difficult chapters of her life following the February abduction of her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie.
A Sweet Reunion
Kotb, 61, recently shared the sweet photo of herself and Guthrie, 54, on her Instagram. The friends and former co-anchors are sitting with their arms around one another.
Hoda captioned the photo, “My favorite place… next to you ❤️ @savannahguthrie.”
In January 2025, Kotb left the “Today” show to spend more time with her daughters, Hayley, 9, and Hope, 7. She also wanted to focus more on her wellness app, Joy 101.
However, Savannah stepped away from the “Today” show following the abduction of her mother in February. Kotb temporarily returned to the anchor desk at that time to fill in for Savannah.
Hoda then went on to conduct an emotional first interview with Savannah for “Today” about Nancy’s abduction and investigation. We are now six months later, and no suspects have been named, and Savannah has made several public pleas for anyone with information to come forward.
Guthrie Returned to ‘Today’ Show
After some time away from the show, Savannah officially returned to “Today” on April 6.
“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Guthrie said of returning to “Today.” “But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so.”
In late July, Savannah announced she would be taking a few weeks away from the show to film the first few episodes of her upcoming Wordle game show, which will likely air in 2027.
She has since addressed her mother’s abductors publicly, pleading for answers. Now, we see her smiling and having a moment of joy with her friend.
