Production on season four of Apple TV’s “Shrinking” is underway, with both Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams set to return to the Jason Segel-led series. In a recent interview, Williams reflected on her relationship with the 84-year-old Hollywood legend, saying she tries to respect his boundaries.
Jessica Williams Tries Not To Bother ‘Shrinking’ Co-Star Harrison Ford
GettyWilliams attended the Television Academy’s 2026 Televerse Festival in August 2026 in Los Angeles. There, the actress spoke to PEOPLE, where the reporter asked about her friendship with Ford, with whom she’s starred on “Shrinking” since its first season in 2023.
She responded, “For the most part, I try not to bother him.” The former “Daily Show” correspondent then said, “He’s a man who’s like 84, who’s lived a lot of life. Like, I don’t need friendship from him. It’s just a matter of [if] he wants to talk, I’ll talk. And if he doesn’t, that’s fine, too.”
Williams continued, “He’s [84], and you don’t need much nonsense and shenanigans, so save that for your friends in your 30s.” She added, “I have friends that I get to send stupid memes to and stuff, and I find them really fulfilling. So I don’t need anything from him.”
Still, despite maintaining respectful distance in her relationship with Ford, Williams does value the good times she has with her “Shrinking” costar.
Jessica Likes Seeing Harrison Ford ‘Annoyed’ Despite Respecting Boundaries
GettyAccording to her, “There’s nothing funnier than seeing Harrison Ford be annoyed. That’s kind of the essence of Harrison and why it works. He plays these kinds of cowboy archetypes that are just hemming and hawing, but secretly want to be there and have a great time.”
From there, she shared that some of Ford’s playful annoyances come with the show. Williams shared, “If it’s in the script, that’s what I’m gonna do, and then I’m gonna just irritate Harrison just a little more so that it gives him something to push off of too. Part of being a good supporting actor is always trying to give that polarity for the other actor.
After that, Williams said her character on the show, Gabby, and Segal’s Jimmy are actually meant to annoy Ford’s character, Paul.
She added, “So, to give Harrison something that he can work with and just be so annoying is key to the performance.” Regarding Ford sometimes going off script, she stated, “He does bits. He’s very silly, very giving, and yeah, he’ll surprise you. That’s what’s fun about him.”

GettyWilliams appeared on “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” in August 2025. On the podcast, the “Shrinking” star opened up about filming an emotional scene with Ford, saying she considers him one of her biggest inspirations as an actor.
She stated, “He was weeping, he was joyful, he was all of those things. But it was one of those moments where they had to come in and be like, ‘Okay, Jessica, you’re weeping. So I don’t know if you’d be weeping as the character.'”
Williams then shared that it was that moment she’d begun to consider Ford “the greatest living actor.”
Regarding the future of “Shrinking,” co-creator Bill Lawrence spoke to Collider in April 2026, revealing that they plan more seasons beyond its upcoming fourth.
He told the outlet, “The way we decided to approach it as writers is that we definitely pitched a story where Season 4 isn’t the last season. We have great partners with Apple and the cast, so I couldn’t tell you if the last season of the show is going to be Season 5 or Season 6.”
Lawrence continued, “It will depend on how we all feel doing the show, and let’s be honest, we’re all nervous because we knew people were engaged in the story we’ve been telling for three years, this new one will be different enough that people will either buy it and like it, or they won’t.”
