Nicole Kidman is keeping her heart open as she moves through an unexpected new chapter in her life.
The 59-year-old actress reflected on the uncertainty she has faced over the past year in a candid new interview with British Vogue, revealing that the future looks very different from what she once imagined.
“I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now,” Kidman said.
Her comments come months after her divorce from Keith Urban was finalized and as the Oscar winner continues moving forward with her family, career and an outlook that includes “embracing love.”

Kidman told British Vogue that she has always approached both her personal and professional lives with her feelings first.
“I don’t overthink things,” she explained, describing herself as “far more feeling-centered” and someone who leads with her heart.
That philosophy hasn’t changed despite the unexpected direction her life has taken.
Kidman said living a “well-examined life” means allowing herself to try things, make mistakes and get back up when something doesn’t work.
It also means “moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.”
Kidman filed for divorce from Urban in September 2025 after 19 years of marriage. Their divorce was finalized in January 2026. The former couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.
EntertainmentNow previously reported that Kidman had been the subject of dating speculation following the divorce. She has not publicly confirmed a new relationship.
Instead, her latest comments focus on remaining receptive to whatever comes next.

“You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like and then it’s … not,” Kidman told British Vogue. She added, “You have to adjust. You adapt.”
The actress acknowledged that there was a period when she felt “very fearful and deeply vulnerable.” Ultimately, however, Kidman decided she could either retreat or move forward “with an enormous amount of hope.”
She credits time and the older women who have served as mentors throughout her life with helping her develop that resilience.
Their advice taught Kidman to accept that life won’t always be fair rather than becoming consumed by difficult moments.
“I know my character,” she said, before adding, “I know my talent. I know who I am.”
That attitude echoes comments Kidman made earlier this year. In March, she said her focus was on moving toward the positive things in her life.
“I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good,” she told Variety at the time, emphasizing her gratitude for her family.
Family Remains Nicole Kidman’s Biggest Priority
Despite having previously experienced a highly publicized divorce from Tom Cruise, Kidman doesn’t view that experience as a roadmap for what she’s navigating now.
When British Vogue asked whether there was anything useful she could carry over from going through a major breakup before, Kidman’s response was simple: “It’s all new.”
Above everything else, she said, her family provides purpose.
“Everything else is not important,” Kidman said. “These kids now, that’s what we drop everything for.”
There have also been plenty of lighter moments during her transition.
Kidman spent part of the summer traveling through London, Ibiza, Paris and Portofino. She revealed that she has been reading poetry and enjoying nights that can range from quiet Scrabble games to dancing at clubs while wearing a dark wig to help her blend in.
Her career is moving forward, too. Kidman reunites with Sandra Bullock in “Practical Magic 2,” arriving in September, nearly three decades after they first played sisters Gillian and Sally Owens.
For Kidman, however, her real-life next chapter doesn’t come with a script.
“The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now,” she admitted.
However, judging by her determination to remain hopeful, keep her heart open and continue embracing life’s possibilities, Kidman appears ready to find out what comes next.
