Amy Poehler is producing a new series for Netflix, featuring stars of the reality show “Summer House,” reports Deadline.
Hannah Berner and Paige DeSorbo, hosts of the “Giggly Squad” podcast, will write and headline the project.
What We Know About The Newest Amy Poehler Project
GettyThe series, currently referred to as the Untitled Hannah And Paige Project, will be set in New York City. Berner and DeSorbo will appear as fictionalized versions of themselves.
The series will follow the duo on their adventures as they become “the ultimate ride-or-dies,” getting rid of baggage to become the version of themselves they’ve always wanted to be.
Berner and DeSorbo first had the idea for the series while working for the same company in New York.
Kay Cannon will be joining the show as Berner and DeSorbo’s co-writer, as well as performing as showrunner. Cannon has worked on “Pitch Perfect” and “30 Rock,” and is directing Jennifer Garner and John Cena in the new Netflix film “One Attempt Remaining.” She has previously directed the Hulu pilot “Don’t Get High.”
Poehler took the project to her company Paper Kite Productions, and although it gained interest from multiple buyers, was landed by Netflix. Berner and DeSorbo will act as executive producers, alongside Poehler, Cannon and Kim Lessing of Paper Kite Productions.
How Berner And DeSorbo Teamed Up With Amy Poehler
GettyBerner and DeSorbo starred in Bravo’s “Summer House,” which follows a group of friends sharing a house in the Hamptons.
Both stars joined the cast in the show’s third season; Berner left in Season 5 and DeSorbo in Season 9. Berner departed to focus on her stand-up career, while DeSorbo decided to focus on her career as a fashion influencer. She later launched sleepwear line Daphne.
Poehler recently hosted Berner and DeSorbo on her podcast “Good Hang With Amy,” which led to Poehler joining the project. Berner had also previously opened as a stand-up for Poehler and Tina Fey.
Both Berner and DeSorbo have worked with Netflix before. Berner headlined the 2024 special “Hannah Berner: We Ride At Dawn,” while DeSorbo hosted the red carpet at Netflix’s Actor Awards.
Poehler’s Other On-Screen Projects
GettyPoehler has teamed up with Michael Schur (“The Office,” “Parks and Recreation”) on new series “Dig,” reports Variety.
Poehler will co-write the first episode as well as star in the series, which is based on the novel “Excavations” by Kate Myers.
Per the show’s logline, “Four women working at an archeological dig in Greece are at wildly different crossroads in their lives. When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”
