Gucci shut down one of the busiest blocks in the world on Saturday night and staged its most star-studded show in recent memory.
GettyNew creative director Demna brought the house’s Cruise 2027 show directly to Times Square on May 16, closing Broadway between 46th and 48th Streets and turning every digital billboard in sight into a live stream of the runway happening on the street below.
The collection was called GucciCore. Tom Brady, Cindy Crawford and Paris Hilton walked the runway. Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey and Anna Wintour sat front row.
It was Demna’s first cruise show for Gucci.
The location ties back to the brand’s history in the city. Gucci opened its first store outside Italy in New York in 1953, and the house described the evening as a homecoming. Before the show began, guests watched a pre-show billboard montage featuring ads for both real and invented Gucci products, including Gucci Gym, Gucci Pets and Gucci Life longevity supplements.
“I love that contrast,” Demna said. “Gucci is quirky, Gucci is a bit fun. We needed to twist it somehow.”
Celebrities Hit the Runway
GettyTom Brady walked through Times Square in a head-to-toe double leather ensemble. Paris Hilton, newly brunette, wore a bright yellow printed dress on the runway. Cindy Crawford closed the show in a black feathered gown.
Emily Ratajkowski walked in knee-high boots and a black wax jacket with an oversize fur collar. Candice Swanepoel also walked the show. Model Alex Consani wore a sheer caftan with stacked jewelry. Musician and model Gabbriette wore a double-breasted navy blazer as a dress. Mariacarla Boscono walked in a feathered asymmetric gown cut up the thigh.
Demna said he wanted to dress “individuals with their own way of wearing clothes, a plurality of styles that intersect like the streets of the city.”
The collection included high-sheen suits, banker pinstripes, low-rise jeans, crop tops and oversize faux-fur coats. Models walked holding iPhones, bodega flower bouquets and yoga mats. Horsebit motifs and the iconic red-and-green Web stripe, reimagined as a bandeau top, also appeared throughout.
Kim Kardashian, Mariah Carey Own the Front Row
Kim Kardashian sat front row in fitted black leggings, a statement jacket with dramatic fuzzy trim and a multi-layered diamond choker, paired with Gucci’s signature space age sunglasses.
Mariah Carey arrived in a long ivory coat and took her seat next to Shawn Mendes. The two chatted between photos, and Mendes got up to greet Stormzy when he arrived.
Lindsay Lohan attended in head-to-toe black leather. Supermodel Iman sat front row. The Bear’s Molly Gordon wore a black shirt dress from the house. Laura Harrier wore a white turtleneck mini dress with a matching bag.
Alix Earle, Ivy Getty, Sydney Carlson, Devon Lee Carlson, Georgia Fowler and Lady Bunny were also in attendance alongside Anna Wintour.
Model Pat Cleveland summed up the evening as she walked through the crowd before the show. “I think this is just universal,” she told WWD. “Because many people celebrate the new year here and many people feel as though this is the place to be. So here we are. Here we are for Gucci.”
Gucci has now held shows on Hollywood Boulevard, in a Florentine piazza and in Times Square. The brand’s next show location has not yet been announced.
