Watch as a Crossword Puzzle Editor Gets Caught Up In a Murder
When you watch “Crossword Mysteries: A Puzzle To Die For,” you’ll find that the story focuses on Tess Harper (Chabert), a crossword puzzle editor, who ends up involved in a unexpected and uncanny situation when clues from the puzzles she’s created “are linked to unsolved crimes,” according to Hallmark Mystery. This results in her being “pulled into the police investigation,” and meeting — and working alongside — Detective Logan O’Connor (Elliott).
On top of that, Hallmark Movies gives fans a little more info, noting that when “the owner of a burglarized art gallery is found murdered, a crossword discovered at the crime scene may hold a crucial clue.”

Seeing Chabert and Elliott together once again, this time with Barbara Niven, the second movie in the series delves into the mystery around the death of Tess’ old friend, who “is found murdered on the very day her puzzle includes his proposal of marriage,” according to Hallmark Mystery. To find out what happened, Tess teams up again with Detective Logan O’Connor.
“Crossword Mysteries: Abracadaver”
Original Premiere: November 23, 2019
The next story in the series sees Tess and Logan tackling another murder when a famous magacian dies while performing a trick. Of course, things aren’t exactly as they seem, and not just because of sleight of hand and illusions. In fact, Hallmark explains that “they must uncover the not-so-obvious clues and work their investigative magic to bring a killer to justice.”
“Crossword Mysteries: Terminal Descent”
Original Premiere: February 14, 2021
This time around, Tess agrees to join a crossword solving competition that involves “a new supercomputer,” per Hallmark. However, when a tech CEO is murdered in a “bizarre” incident, she once again has to help solve the crime along with Detective O’Connor. Featuring both Chabert and Elliott as well as Niven, this movie also sees John Kapelos join the cast.
“Crossword Mysteries: Riddle Me Dead”
Original Premiere: April 11, 2021
In the final “Crossword Mystery” movie (at least, the final movie for now), Tess decides to use her puzzle-solving skills on a game show, but things take a fatal turn when the host is killed and she must find out the truth behind the death… with the help of Logan, of course!
Are More ‘Crossword Mystery’ Movies On the Way?
While there’s no doubt that fans would love to see more “Crossword Mystery” movies with Chabert and Elliott, Hallmark hasn’t yet announced any plans to bring another story to the screen.
However, back in August, Elliott addressed the possibility in an Instagram post that featured a photo of himself as Detective Logan O’Connor. He also included a song with his post, “FULL POWER” by MoonResident, which gives fans a hint at the actor’s feelings about his character making a big return thanks to the simple lyrics that say, “Let’s go!”
“I hear you all wanting more #crosswordmysteries movies,” Elliott wrote in the caption of his post. “I’m sure @hallmarkchannel hears you too.”
Assuring his followers that he’ll update them if and when he finds out anything about another movie, he added, “I … just wanted to say that I am so glad you all enjoy this series so much and I’d love to bring the character of this guy #detectiveloganoconnor back to your screens. Here is to that maybe happening some day! But touches my heart how much you all love it and want many more.”
