Danielle Fishel is back in her 1999 prom dress.
The “Boy Meets World” star reunited with her former boyfriend, *NSYNC member Lance Bass, to recreate their 1999 prom photo more than two decades later.
The pose closely matches the original—including the “hoverhand” over Fishel’s waist—and she’s wearing the same dress she wore in 1999.
“We recreated our 1999 Prom pic, hoverhand and all (and yes, that’s the ACTUAL dress!) I still don’t know why we didn’t work out!!” Fishell wrote on Instagram this week.
The iconic recreation took place on the set of “American Idol.” Fishel currently hosts the show’s official companion podcast for season 24, which features contestant interviews and behind-the-scenes content.
In the photo, Bass “hovers” his hand just behind Fishel’s waist, a detail visible in the original photo, where his hand appears just off her body.
The former boyband star acknowledged it in his own Instagram post.
“Some things change… and some things stay respectfully still hovering,” he wrote.

Their relationship has been discussed in later interviews and podcast appearances, with the “Boy Meets World” star admitting she had imagined a future with Bass during that time.
Getty“I thought I was going to marry Lance,” she said on an April 2023 episode of “Pod Meets World,” a “Boy Meets World” rewatch podcast. “I had envisioned our future. I held onto for hope for way too long that Lance and I were going to get back together and get married and have a family.
“Lance and I had a very wonderful, very warm, loving relationship but it was completely lacking of intimacy. Intimacy in the romantic sense. We shared all of our feelings, and we shared family stuff and we were very intimate emotionally, but we were not physically intimate.”
Bass later came out as gay in a 2006 cover story for People.
Despite their breakup, the two “Dancing With the Stars” alums have remained friends.
Both stars have, of course, moved on romantically. Bass is now married to artist and actor Michael Turchin and have 4-year-old fraternal twins who were born via surrogate, Alexander and Betty. Meanwhile, Fishel tied the knot with movie producer Jensen Karp and now have two sons, Adler, 6, and Keaton, 4.

“Omgggggg iconic 😍,” said reality TV star Scheana Shay.
Bass also entered the comments himself.
“Happy prom season!” he wrote.
GettyFans also focused on the dress and the throwback photo itself.
“They are both going great. They look even younger than the original picture 🩷,” one fan wrote.
“Holy Nostalgia! 😍,” said another.
“Wait.. IS THAT THE SAME DRESS?!?!” another fan chimed in.
