Jennifer Lopez had a specific request any time that she would appear to perform on “Top of the Pops”. The “On The Floor” hitmaker and former “American Idol” judge to date has starred on the popular program a total of 17 times, and the unusual request for her dressing room has become a bit of a backstage tale.
What Was Jennifer Lopez’s Special Backstage Request?
GettyGareth Davies, the former assistant floor manager for “Top of the Pops”, spoke to Zingo Bingo about “Jenny From the Block’s” wish revealing that she would request that her backstage dressing room was entirely white.
Gareth noted how the dressing rooms at Elstree Studios, where the singer sometimes got ready, weren’t white but were instead rather simple and old-fashioned. But Jennifer would put in a special request for the room to be made white from top to bottom, even if it wasn’t achieved through giving the dressing room a fresh coat of paint.
Explaining what was done to transform JLo’s room, Gareth explained: “The dressing rooms were all along this narrow corridor, so nothing special, really, quite old-fashioned. But for that small stretch of space, she made it completely her own.
“The best way to describe it is that she turned her dressing room entirely white. At the time, I’m not sure where the fascination with white came from, but she wanted everything transformed. The whole room was covered from top to bottom, which was quite unusual. She didn’t paint it, she had plastic sheeting put up everywhere instead, so it created this striking, all-white environment.
JLo Addressing Comments About The Dressing Room Choice
In a 2011 interview with Vanity Fair, Jennifer actually touched upon her decision to have her dressing rooms transformed into an entirely white environment. Addressing comments that she was a bit of a “diva” for it, she pointed towards her manager and the godfather of her children, Benny Medina, and noted how “Benny always made sure things were nice for me because we were working like maniacs.”
JLo continued: “And I don’t fault him for that. And by the way, he didn’t get faulted, I did. But every other star does the same thing. Maybe because I was successful, I was a woman, I don’t know. But I don’t put on a lot of airs. I work very hard. Being a diva or materialistic is a false perception. I’m not that. I just love surrounding myself with beautiful things.
“Did that have the potential to come off as egotistical or decadent? Maybe. But the intention always was to inspire.”
Jennifer Lopez has recently been traveling a lot for events including Paris Fashion Week, performing with David Guetta and promoting her film “Office Romance”. The star also recently had a dual birthday bash with her sister Lynda, sang in Italian while over in Italy, and has continued to work on her beauty line, JLo Beauty. She always appears to be busy jetting off somewhere or working on something, and I can’t wait to see what she does next!
