Anne Hathaway Captivates With New Look in ‘Verity’ Trailer

The first trailer for the upcoming psychological thriller “Verity” has dropped, giving fans a glimpse of Anne Hathaway’s menacing character for the first time.

The Oscar winner stars alongside both Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett in the adaptation of the bestselling Colleen Hoover novel of the same name. The story follows struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh, who takes up the opportunity to finish a book series when the original author, Verity Crawford, is left paralyzed and unable to write following a mysterious accident.

The novel twists and distorts the truth throughout, with Hathaway’s character Verity proving to be far more cunning and deceitful than she initially appears. The actress seems to have captured that nature perfectly in the new trailer, which gives a terrifying look at what she may be capable of.

Anne Hathaway Takes On A Sinister & Disturbing Role

“Verity” tasks readers with deciding what is the truth and whose version of events should be trusted, with Verity being presented both as a vulnerable woman and a far more sinister force at the same time.

The trailer provides a good look at Hathaway’s performance and look for the film, which is very different to the type of roles that viewers might be used to seeing from her.

One of the central mysteries of the Hoover novel is whether Verity is as injured as she makes out. Following the discovery of an unpublished autobiographical manuscript that was seemingly written by Verity, things take a disturbing turn for Lowen as she continues to make more discoveries about the Crawford home.

The film follows the release of another Hoover adaptation. “It Ends With Us,” starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, became a major box office hit in 2024. “Verity” will be released in theaters on October 2.

2026 Has Proven To Be a Busy Year for Anne Hathaway

It has been a busy year for Hathaway, who has already had major roles in the likes of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” and “The Odyssey.” She is also set to appear in “The End of Oak Street,” with the actress admitting that it has been one of her busiest years in the entertainment industry.

When I got my schedule for this year from all the wonderful film studios that I’ve worked with, I saw it and I kind of thought I was being punked,” said Hathaway. “But then they showed me that no, no, no, all these [release] dates were going to hold, and I just said, ‘As long as audiences don’t get sick of my face’ — which I wouldn’t blame them [for]. I would not blame them if they did— let’s go.”

Anne Hathaway Jokes About Pregnancy Claims

Earlier this summer, the 43-year-old actress revealed that she was pregnant with her third child. Hathaway is married to longtime husband Adam Shulman and the couple have two songs in the form of 10-year-old Jonathan and six-year-old Jack.

Opening up about becoming pregnant at the age of 43, Hathaway explained that she and her husband considered the pregnancy a blessing.

“We just decided to see where life took us,” Hathaway said. “We’re overjoyed because we just know from personal experience that not everybody gets this, and certainly not when you want it—sometimes not ever.”

Earlier this week, her red carpet appearance at the premiere for “The End of Oak Street” caused something of a stir. Some social media users claimed that her baby bump was fake, prompting a response from Hathaway on Instagram. Alongside a video of her getting ready for the event, she added a caption that reads, “Fake hair, real bump.”
